Jaw Trauma

Jaw trauma includes dental and alveolar injuries, mandibular/maxillary fractures and soft‑tissue lacerations. Initial priorities are airway safety, bleeding control and neurological assessment. Prof. Dr. Altan VAROL evaluates fracture lines, TMJ involvement and dental stability with imaging; depending on indications, closed reduction/intermaxillary fixation or open reduction with internal fixation may be used.

The goals are anatomical alignment, restoration of occlusion and lowering infection risk. Early‑phase swelling and bruising are expected; cold packs, analgesia and proper positioning improve comfort. Rehabilitation focuses on gradually restoring chewing function. Wound care, diet and hygiene instructions are clearly provided.

Regular follow‑ups are essential to monitor bone healing and guide soft‑tissue recovery. With appropriate planning and disciplined follow‑up, function and appearance return to a natural balance.
